Kimberly Durant
Where were you born?

Marion, Ohio

Where did you live before coming to our area?

Columbus, Ohio.

Moved to Colorado in 2001, lived in Aurora, then Colorado Springs, and now we live in Golden, CO

Why are you interested in animals?

I have always loved animals. My mom used to call me
"St. Francis" when I was young because I was always bringing animals home.

What are your favorite animals to work on?

No favorites. I love working on any animal that needs help, although the babies always have a warm place in my heart.

Do you have any amazing or funny stories to tell about working with animals?

When I was working with wildlife, I was cleaning out a kennel for a Canadian goose. As I was walking out of the room, for supplies, I got goosed by the goose!

Why did you become a veterinarian nurse?

When I worked with wildlife, I wanted more medical knowledge, so I decided to go to tech school. I started at Columbus State technical school in Ohio, but transferred to Bel-Rea in Aurora, CO when we moved here.

What are your favorite things about being a veterinary nurse?

Being able to help animals with knowledge and compassion and hopefully be able to transfer that to the owner so they can enjoy their pet longer.

What are your favorite things about working at Boulders Natural Animal?

I like the environment at Boulder’s Natural Animal. Everyone there is there because they love animals and feel that they care as much as I do. I think animals feel more comfortable coming to us because it doesn't seem like and extremely clinical environment.

Tell us about your pets and your family.

Tommy is my husband. We have been married for 3 years. He is a brewmaster at Coors in Golden.

Nova is a 9 year old Rottweiler. She was turned over by a client in Colorado Springs in 2004; Lucky, Mysti, Buster, Sophie and Max are my cats. Lucky, a Manx, was found when about 2 days old. He has short hair and is about 7 years old. Mysti is 6.5 years old domestic shorthair, Buster and Sophie are brother and sister and about 6 years old; Max is my oldster, he is about 14 years old that was turned over by a client at a veterinary practiced I worked at before Boulder’s Natural Animal.

Do you have any hobbies?

I love making jewelry and my passion is body building.

What sports do you like?

I played softball and volleyball in high school.

What do you want people to know about you that is really really cool?

When in Ohio, I helped run a Wildlife Rehabilitation facility. I was working with all types of Ohio wildlife. I was permitted by the Ohio State Division of Wildlife to do home care and was called "The Squirrel Queen."

Did you go to tech school? If so where and are you certified?

I went to Bel Rea and graduated in June of 2002. I received my certification in June of 2003 as well.

What are your goals in life?

To leave this world a better place for the animals.
